Divisions+55 thousand hectares planted with eucalyptus

The RIMA Group produces and supplies charcoal, as debarked wood chips and posts, using raw material sourced from sustainably managed eucalyptus forests ..
To achieve this, the RIMA Group manages approximately 55,000 hectares of forest projects, the majority of which are certified for sustainable forest management by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC). Their forest assets are located in the northern Minas Gerais state, the Jequitinhonha Valley, and the São Francisco Valley.

In order to achieve the highest quality charcoal, RIMA has a technology and development department that seeks to increasingly improve the operational controls of the production process, as well as studying the development of new processes that are more operationally and environmentally advanced. In this way, the company manages to reconcile preserving the environment with increasing its productivity capacity.

Genetic improvement

By applying modern forestry practices and investing in Research & Development, the RIMA Group produces charcoal of excellent quality, that contributes to the high performance of its products and at the same time reducing the greenhouse effect, since its forests promote the sequestration and fixation of millions of tons of CO₂ and the equivalent release of tons of O₂ into the atmosphere.

RIMA's Genetic Improvement Programs have existed for more than two decades and were conceived with the aim of increasing genetic gains in the desired technological characteristics of eucalyptus. Among all the improvements, we can list productivity gains, increased wood density, resistance to drought and other adverse weather conditions, as well as an increase in the amount of fixed carbon in charcoal per hectare planted.

The combination of genotypes with desirable characteristics and higher yields than their parents is achieved through selection strategies and field tests carried out over several years. All this work has already produced clones with extremely high yields and perfectly adapted to the climate of the region where they are located, some of which have already been genetically mapped and registered with MAPA.

And RIMA's Genetic Improvement Program doesn't stop there! The 5th generation clones, which incorporate new genetic matrices and the prospect of even greater improvements in the main characteristics of the wood, are already in an advanced stage of field testing, with a view to producing low-cost and high-quality charcoal.

RIMA Group also manages around 75,000 hectares of native forests across its legal reserves, Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs), and the Alessandra Bello Vicintin Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN), established to preserve biodiversity. This RPPN is situated in the Pandeiros River basin, which supports the reproduction of 70% of the fish in the São Francisco River. Various monitoring activities are conducted to mitigate the impacts of industry operations, including assessments of fauna, flora, water resources, and wildfire prevention efforts.
